With more than 30 years in Unity, Rev. Karen has been serving our Unity By The Bay congregation since September 2010.
Rev. Karen was credentialed by Unity Worldwide Ministries as a Licensed Unity Teacher in 2009 and was ordained by Emerson New Thought in April 2011. In 2022, Rev. Karen was ordained by Unity Worldwide Ministries and continues to serve as our Senior Minister.
Rev. Karen is deeply rooted in Unity principles and philosophy. An engaging speaker and teacher, she is an inspiring leader for Unity By The Bay who walks the Truth she shares and encourages others to stretch and grow their spiritual life. Rev. Karen also currently serves as a Chaplain for Bay Area Hospital.

My best job was working for the Hanford Project near Kennewick, Washington. My job was to handle all the radioactive badges for the workers at the Project. I helped take the film out of the badges, run them through the computer, read them and compiled a report, so that we kept track of the amount of radiation that each employee received.
My husband and I came to Unity in 2004. Since coming here, I have worked in the office, helping the Office Manager and Rev. Karen. I take care of mailing out birthday cards, and welcome cards, and keep the database up to date. I am a part of the Merry Mailers. I’ve also sung in the choir. After Lori Barton made her transition, I took over the Lending Library. I have been an usher and have served on the Board several times. In addition, I enjoy being part of the Chaplain team and providing prayer support for our congregants and friends.
In addition to being part of the Chaplain team at Unity By The Bay, Betty Bangs is the Centennial Committee Chairperson for Unity By The Bay spiritual center. The church building is a designated historic site of North Bend, Oregon. The congregants of Unity By The Bay will celebrate the building’s 100th year in 2024. It was built by the Presbyterians of North Bend in 1924. It is noted that Betty, a nonagenarian will celebrate her 99th birthday at that time.
